The Picciones: Are you only listening?

Becoming saved by God takes one prayer. Becoming a follower of Christ is a process that doesn't happen overnight. Since we don't know the entire Bible and what it means we have to study it, just like anything else. We don't have an amazing relationship right off the bat that grows with time... also, just as anything else. A lot of the times I let my emotions take over and it doesn't mean that I am a Christian, it just proves that I am a sinner. I know that it is not good but I have to break a habit that I've had for the past 25 years. It's not so easy, but I'm working on it.

The other day in one of my brother's videos (this one, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Fq4NvqGhDU) , he said that you should always give your spouse the benefit of the doubt. Always think that whatever they do or say is most likely not how you took it. Always think that whatever they are doing is for the good of you and your family. Perhaps it's not, but ask before assuming.
In college I took a gender study class. Loved it, one of my favorites til this day. It talked about how men and women communicate and it was quite interesting, and hilarious. In one example the teacher showed a video of one woman talking with a group of her girlfriends about her broken down car. The friends gave her moral support by saying things like, "luckily its good weather this week and you can get around by walking", or "I could pick you up in the mornings, etc." Then the same woman goes and talks to her husband about the car and instead of support, he gives her a solution, like men tend to do. "Did you take it in for servicing?" For a woman this question feels like a stab in the heart, as if he is implying that she is irresponsible. We start to let our emotions get a hold of us and feel offended, when really, the man is offering his advice and what he thinks will solve her problem. We hear and speak differently. So not only do we need to communicating better but we need to truly understand better what the other one means to say. Words can be misunderstood. Before exploding, stop and ask, talk, try to understand, be kind, don't let the way you feel or the way you think carry you away to an explosion that you will later regret(like I do.. trust me, its not pretty).
The example in my brothers video is hilarious also because while watching you realize that this is exactly what happens in our men and women relationships. We misunderstand one another, on the basis that we are different. There is a reason for this and I will get to that in another blog but I just wanted to mention quickly that communication isn't just talking, its understanding.
