1) 15 days after Benji was born I married the most handsome, loving, kind, generous, understanding man I have ever met. I know this may sound a little cheesy and cliche but I fall in love with him a little more each day. This year has really been a difficult one for me. Becoming a new mom and moving away from your family isn't the easiest thing on earth, and I have definitely let Diego know that. But he has, without doubt, dealt with all my crying, complaining, whining, you name it, as if I was his wife and best friend. Oh wait, I am! haha But he really has been my biggest supporter. I really can't thank him enough or express how grateful I am to have him in my life. I am the luckiest girl in the world.
2) In September, the 14th to be exact, we made our house into a home. We moved all our stuff in and slept in OUR bed in our new home for the first time. That was the moment that I truly realized that I was going to be here for awhile or at least until our rent contract was up July 2013 which at the time sounded like a century away. But month after month this place has transformed into family pictures on the wall and baby toys all over the floor. Even though it isn't sitting in front of the irreplaceable west coast beach, it really has emerged into something I never thought possible: my safe place.
Diego: This past year Diego has traveled to California twice, got a promotion at work, split his head open, and his team has moved up a division in soccer. This is almost like winning the super bowl. But lets not compare American football with soccer, its just not fair to them. He has also gained a new appreciation for the states other than the things its known for like the amusement parks, beaches and beautiful blondes. He wants to move back and I cant wait for us to do that. I think he will be happy there and experience just such a different and new life.
Benjamin: Well, he has obviously had the normal changes that a baby has in the first year. Although the poor little boy still isn't walking nor does he have any hair. I guess he is really taking after his momma. But what he does have is a strong personality that screams bloody murder if you tell him no, 6 teeth, 2 ft 4inches, size 5 shoe, and almost 20 pounds. He can tell you what sound an airplane and an Indian make. He waves bye bye but only if you say "chau" and loves to throw anything and everything he can get his hands on. He is a really good eater, especially if you had it first. He is a strong, healthy, and happy little boy.
Me: So, I don't want to ramble on too much about myself but I have grown up a lot, and I think it comes with the territory, no? When you become a mother you automatically have to become selfless. My life is no longer my life, it belongs to my son. But other than that I have become a great cook making everything from scratch, spaghetti sauce, cakes, brownies, and even homemade noodles. I am really taking after my grandma Bear. The most important thing I have done this year is strengthen my relationship with God. I have been reading the Bible and listening to Sermons. Benjamin has taught me a different kind of love and now I know just what God was talking about when he said he loves his little children.
Cause Boy do I love this little guy!
Benjamin's Godmother Martina and I took Benjamin to the Capital and to the park. He had so much fun. He walked around the entire gate that you see in the picture above. His goal was to throw every rock on the other side of the fence. I let him throw about 511 and then we had to go. We had such a good time!
Well, until next week when my son will turn one!!
