Cultural Differences

It's a small world after all, It's a small world after all,
It's a small world after all, , It's a small world after all.
There is just one moon and one golden sun
And a smile means friendship to everyone
theres so much that we share
that its time we're aware
its a small world after all.

There is actually more to the song and its all mixed up but this is the part I remember because it's the part my mom used to sing to me. And I love it.

In Argentina there are definitely some major cultural differences and luckily I have adapted pretty well. Some differences I really enjoy and others not so much, but what I want to emphasize is that If you cannot differentiate what is good and what is bad in your culture you are lost, you're just following the crowd. You are following traditions and not your own beliefs. I am very opinionated, probably too much, but when I don't agree with something I have no problem speaking up. Whether it is in my own culture or Argentina's. I get all the time, "that's how it is in your culture" or "here in Argentina we are different," etc. Well, this one is for you! Knock that off. Stop following the media!!
In my culture we don't give kisses on the cheek to greet one another, yet I do it anyway. Not because I enjoy it because I really don't, it makes me feel uncomfortable. However, I do not think that acknowledging people when entering a room is a bad thing. Even though it makes me feel awkward I think the idea of it is fantastic. Therefore, I force myself to do it. Don't get me wrong a lot of times I smoke bomb out of places to avoid giving another round of kisses, because le's be honest... one kiss is quite enough. Although these kisses do create a more comfortable environment, create conversations and sometimes allow you to catch up with each person individually which builds some personal contact.
So I greet people with a kiss because if I don't I am rude. If I express my opinion on how I see things from a different light and different country, I am rude because I don't think the same as they do here. People always want you to follow the crowd. There are some things that I do not agree with and I will not change. This is a good thing people! You don't have to follow the pattern of the norms in order to be Argentine or American. You are no less Argentine if you don't drink mate, like empenadas, or say "hijo de puta" to describe every person you don't get along with. You are no less American if you don't eat corndogs, like baseball, or refuse to call every girl "ratchet." These are small and perhaps tedious norms but start making a list of what you believe in, the morals and standards you have set for yourself and start applying them to your life. Start being aware of  what is acceptable and unacceptable in your presence. The people who don't start respecting those standards are allowed to be pushed to the side. Don't feel bad about trying to improve your quality of life. Whatever environment you are in is what you allow yourself to be a part of. Attitude is contagious. You start hanging around people who say "hijo de puta" about everyone and you will start doing the same, trust me.. I know!
It's funny because a lot of people don't even know why certain traditions are the way they are nowadays. They just follow them. One time my told me this funny story.
A woman cut off the whole butt of the turkey to cook it and her husband one Thanksgiving asked her why she did this. The woman said that it was because that is the way her mother did it. So they called her mother and asked her why she cuts the whole butt end of the turkey off. The mother's answer was the same, because that is the way her mother did it. So they called her Grandma, and the grandma said, "because the whole turkey doesn't fit in the dish I have for the oven."
haha, pretty funny, huh?
I believe that knowing where you came from is a great thing and to pass that on to our children but because you know the meaning behind it. If I can learn how to make my Grandma's lace cookies, those bad boys will be passed down to the many generations of the Lusby family to come.
I want my children to not be shifted by the media or their generations bad habits. My poor kid(or kids) are going to be educated on what is right according to the creator of he world and not America's culture or Argentine traditions. Otherwise they will be geared in who knows how many directions. People will jus keep changing and changing until the world will be one big giant Hollywood! A lot of people give the excuse that the Bible was written too long ago and the lifestyle it gears you to live by is outdated. But come on,
Keep it steady people. Hold your ground. Know your stuff!! Remember that You should trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5 He will protect you from this generation. Psalms 12:7 and 8.
and with that I leave you ;) God Bless
